Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to skip the upcoming G20 Summit to be held in New Delhi, India next week, Reuters said on Thursday.

Instead, Chinese Premier Li Qiang will represent Beijing in the summit (September 9 to 10). Both Chinese and Indian spokespersons did not said word on request of comments by Reuters.

The summit is viewed as a venue where the U.S and Chinese Presidents can meet because Biden has confirmed his attendance, where the two superpowers can talk and seek to stabilize their relations on trade and geo-political tensions.

Last time two Presidents met in G20, was at Bali, Indonesia, last November.

One official of Indian government said to Reuters that “we are aware that the premier will come”, in place of Xi.

Two Chinese diplomats and a government official also said that President Xi will not be visiting the summit.

Russian president Vladimir Putin has already announced that he will not be travelling to India, instead will send Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

G20 summits are held once every year, and the upcoming eighteenth meeting will hold in New Delhi from September 9 10, 2023. It will be the first ever G20 summit to be held in India as well as in South Asia.
