As the smog situation worsen in Lahore, Govt. of Punjab is planning for cloud seeding that could result rain and can reduce smog in the city. Project is estimated cost of Rs. 350 million.

According to the Punjab Interim Information Minister, Amir Mir, "Chinese experts will visit Pakistan soon for cloud seeding."

Chief Meteorologist Chaudhry Aslam previously said that artificial rain is expected in Lahore next month and preparations were underway for it as the government ups its efforts to reduce smog.

On Friday, the concentration of PM 2.5 tiny particulate matter, in the air hit 269 in Lahore, considered very unhealthy by WHO.

Cloud seeding is a weather modification technique aimed at enhancing precipitation in clouds. The process involves the introduction of various substances into the air from a plane, which can act as cloud condensation. The goal is to encourage the formation and growth of precipitation particles within clouds, ultimately increasing rainfall or snowflakes.

Lahore, along with the majority of the Punjab province, is engulfed in dense smog, transforming the region into a "toxic gas chamber" and causing severe health issues for its residents. The city's Air Quality Index (AQI) consistently ranks among the highest, placing it among the most polluted cities globally.
