Asia Cup 2023: Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by 89 runs

Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by 89 in the 4th match of Asia Cup played at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore  on Sunday.

Chasing a target of 335 runs, Afghanistan was bowled out for 245 runs, Ibrahim Zadran scored 75 and captain Hashmat Ullah scored 51 runs.

Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat. Last Asia Cup match played in Gaddafi Stadium was 15 years ago. The stadium will host 3 matches of Asia Cup 2023.

Bangladesh scored 50 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 334 overs, Mehdi Hassan scored 112 and Najmal Hossain scored 104 runs.

Bangladesh's innings

Bangladesh's Mohammad Naim scored 28 runs and was dismissed by Mujeeb Ur Rahman, while Tawheed was dismissed by Gulbadin Naib without scoring any runs.

After the fall of two wickets, Mehdi Hassan and Najmal Hussain batted responsibly and scored centuries. Mehidy Hasan scored 2 and Najmal Hussain scored 112 runs.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Gulbadin Naib took one wicket each for Afghanistan.

Afghanistan's innings

Chasing sri lanka's target of 335 runs, Afghanistan did not start well at all, opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz was dismissed on just one runner, but ibrahim zadran and Rahmat Shah shared a 78-run partnership, but then Rahmat returned to the pavilion after scoring 33 runs.

After the fall of two wickets, Ibrahim Zadran and Hashmatullah scored half-centuries, but then set-batter Ibrahim Zadran left the team with 2 runs, while new batter Najibullah was also dismissed for 75 runs.

At the toss, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan said that the wicket is conducive for batting, we will try to give a good total.

Afghanistan captain Hashmat Ullah Shahidi said that if we had won the toss, we would have preferred to bat, we have a lot of support from the fans in Lahore.
